I did this commissioned painting for a lovely Mama I know on Facebook. She wanted a breastfeeding mermaid with dreadlocks, and I said “sure!”
This was so much fun to paint, I love creating something with someone else in mind, it is so interesting to intuit what they will like.
I sometimes felt like, “oh my goodness, what if she doesn’t like it??, or I would worry that I was going to spill something on it.
But it turned out quite well, I say.
It was a labor of love.
To bring a vision into existence.
I used a photo of her and her adorable son as a reference. I took inspiration from Chinese art for the water and I used a Tibetan mandala for the background.
Mixing elements from different cultures into my art is something I really enjoy.
I hope that this painting is enjoying it’s new home *wink* and that the owner loves it as much as I loved painting it.
If you would want one of these for yourself (a custom painting) you can check out my store 🙂
