Starting out by getting my sketch onto my watercolor paper, I use a homemade light box to do this.

I used cross-hatching for shading, then I added a layer of liquid mask over the foreground so I could paint the background.

I add flicks of color
I use a hair dryer to speed up the drying and it pushed the paint around for a cool effect
