We want to make the most of this precious time, it is so short, and so miraculous! I loved being pregnant, I wanted to savor every moment of it, even the uncomfortable parts like heartburn and morning sickness.
Some woman have a tough time being pregnant, they feel yucky through a lot of it. Whether we feel good or bad, we can all take a little time to enjoy this life-changing experience!
Here are some ideas of things you can do when you are pregnant:
1. Take A Bath
I loved bathing and meditating at the same time. I would lay in the warm water and imagine my birth, visualizing myself opening and allowing.
There are many ways to meditate, but basically if you sit and close your eyes, focus on your breath (try focusing on the feeling of it entering and exiting your nose), you are meditating. When thoughts come up, return to your breath.
Do this somewhere quiet and dim the lights. It is very relaxing and allows your mind to take a break.
This is meditation with a mission. There are plenty of visualizations available on the web, or makeup your own. I liked to do visualizations of myself birthing my child and imagining myself opening. I did these with my second pregnancy, so I knew what to expect from birth. With my first pregnancy, it was harder for me to do visualizations.
4. Listen To Relaxing Music
When I was pregnant with my second daughter, I would play the same relaxing CD almost every night. It soothed me, and when baby could hear through my womb, the music soothed her. When she was born, I continued to play the CD. It really helped her calm down and sleep.
5. Massage Your Belly
Buy yourself some nice pregnancy-friendly massage oil and rub your belly. I would do this every night before bed when I was pregnant with my son. It was so cool to feel his body under my skin, and to have him move around under my hands. This was by-far my favorite part of being pregnant, feeling a being move inside me.
6. Talk To Your Baby
This is fun to do when you know the fetus can hear; speak out loud and feel your baby respond. Communicating with your baby really gets good love juices flowing and puts you into the moment. I communicated in my mind to my baby’s right from the start.
7. Go For A Walk
Find a calming and peaceful place to walk; out in nature and away from a busy road. I loved walking and holding my belly and thinking about my baby and motherhood, and my coming birth experience.
I love coloring beautiful images. I love it so much that I created The Blissful Belly Coloring Journal, a coloring book made specifically for pregnant woman 🙂 Coloring is a relaxing activity that also gets your creative juices flowing. Mandala’s are really fun and easy to color.
Writing about your feelings and the changes that are happening in your body can help you sort through your feelings. Many feelings come up when we are pregnant, it is nice to have an outlet for these emotions. I liked to write in my journal at night about what I had felt or thought about that day. I would track my belly growth and moments I wanted to remember. This can make a really nice keepsake for remembering this important time.
These are all meditations in a way; they facilitate introspection and contemplation, both of which are required for a good life.
Take and make the time to enjoy your pregnancy! You deserve it. Mothers are doing one of the most important jobs on this planet. You create and carry life. Ponder this miracle. Allow yourself to be in awe of this sacred act.
